I saw Dark Shadows last night. My little take on it:

First, it looked great visually. It’s filmed in the UK and supposed to take place in Maine. The geology student in me picked up on that fake-ness in the opening credits :) It was beautiful though and I’d love to live there.

The plot itself is not the greatest story. The fun in the film for me was watching Depp’s character and how he reacted. Not gonna give any spoilers. It was hilarious to say the least. The guy had a lot of really funny lines!

The other actors were great also, but nothing outstanding. I love Helena B Carter! She was typical her. Any film with her in it gets an upvote from me.

The costumes were to drool over. Loved em!!

I’d say its worth to see it in theatre if you love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Otherwise, wait for DVD.

These are called saran wrap nails. It’s hard to see what the pattern looks like since my camera on the phone wouldn’t catch it just right. You’ll have to Google it to see a better pic. It does look awesome! Also, I think it’s best to use really contrasting colours.

Basically, you wad up some Saran wrap, dab it into nail polish, and then dab it onto your nails.

It might be a good idea to wrap your fingers first since this process is very messy. Or you could just q-tip it.

However, after much soul searching.. contemplation.. experience.. and being surrounded by awesome and inspiring people, I’ve decided to change my major to Geology. Thankfully, I wasn’t so far along in my degree that I’ve taken classes that won’t apply. I’ve been going through mostly general ed stuff.

So why the change? Well, for one, the more I learn about the Vet industry as a whole, the less I like the politics involved. I’d rather not work a job when I morally disagree with too many things. Having a love of animals is simply not enough to make me want to put up with mounds of BS. Secondly, everything that I love in life seems to point back to the Geo sciences. I just didn’t realize it that’s where it’s at.

I took an Oceanography class a few semesters ago. It was to fulfill a requirement. I thought it would be easy, boring, and an easy class to pass. Boy was I wrong!! Not only was it challenging, but it opened my eyes to a field I didn’t realize was the culmination of everything I am passionate about: nature. I love learning about the history of this magnificent hunk of rock we all live on. I love learning about all the things it is composed of.

If you had asked me earlier last year what I thought geologists did, I would have said “meh, rock lickers!” But yeah, it’s so much more than that. I have an odd obsession with seismology and ocean sediment… so I guess I kind fit into that category :) Also, the mining industry has always fascinated me, especially safety aspects.

So really, my world has opened up more than I ever imagined. I’ll just leave it at that. :)
