The time I was obsessed with….

Oh Stryper, how much did I love thee? Let me count the ways!

Back in the day I used to be obsessedOBSESSED with this band. I had all their tapes. I collected the records, and my walls were covered in their posters. I had tshirts, "Official Stryper" bibles, and I was damn near convinced I would someday marry their drummer.

I wrote their contact address (which was actually their vocalists wife) on a damn near monthly basis, inquiring as to the marital, physical, and any other stats my young mind could think of. I even went so far as to steal cheques from my parents to order official merchandise with. You think that’s crazy eh? What’s worse is that the first cheque I sent in was not signed properly. So they sent it back. I figured out what was missing and then mailed it back with my order. I never did see the look on my parents face when the large tubes of posters arrived, along with whatever other horror I inflicted upon their bank account.

Yes, I was a fangirl. I watched their live concert videos, memorizing every step they took on the stage. I dreamed of rocking out in concert with them, dressed in their "yellow and black attack" signature costumes.

The day I saw them live in concert was like making the Hajj. I had a broken ankle and was on crutches, but none the less I stood there, in pain, surrounded by body heat and vile sweat. But I was there. My moment of bliss had come.

And then one wretched day I received official corespondance informing me that the lead vocalist had left the band. Many tears of agony were shed that day. It was one of the darkest days of my 13 year existance.

I still have my records and a few posters. All the letters from their fan club are tucked away in an album. All these things are covered in dust or partially consumed by termites. They have put out a recent album that I have not heard, nor have much desire to. I’ve heard rumours of a reunion tour. I doubt I’d pay 5 bucks for that shite. Oh, and I’m pretty sure I’d scream and shoot myself if I ever woke up next to the drummer now *gag*.

Boy how life changes…..
