Neelix has been better about eating out of my hand as of late. Instead of me just sticking a seed or something up into his face, I keep it back about 5cm, this way he is given the choice to approach it and take it. So far it seems to be more successful.

Not sure if this might help some of you, but I noticed that whenever I approached him with a seed, he was dipping his head down and gaping his beak. I finally figured to assume this was a defensive posture, and so that is why I decided to let him approach me, instead of my getting right up into his face. It still makes him a bit defensive, but not nearly as much as before.

He is totally attached to Neville. I can't take the two apart without him making constant contact calls!!

My goal with him is to continue to get him more used to being touched. Not sure if he will ever come around, but I will continue to try so long as this adorable little guy shares his life with me.

Not a whole lot to update on. Neville is still my cute little Nevzky. That's been his nickname. He is still just as laid back as when I brought him home. He and Neelix get along great, in fact they sleep together in the same cage.

Nevz doesn't spend much time in his big cage, he would much rather be in this smaller one I have, so I gave in. He still has access to the bigger one when he wants. The only times he goes into the large one is when I leave the house when they are awake.

He does not talk, except for "Step up!" which he says quite often. He has been, however, started to babble more lately. So I know that may or may not lead to anything.

I'll post a link to his Twitter account and my YouTube account with some videos of him. :)

Today marks the first day that Neville has stood on my hand and not had a fit trying to get back to his cage. Usually he does nothing but beg and turn circles trying to get back. But tonight he chewed and tore up a hairband and also nibbled on my face a bit.

It made me feel so GREAT! I am glad he is gaining some trust in me :) :)

As I type this he is staring at me. He has been staring at me a lot more today than he normally does.

Neville has started to say "step up" or "up up"... it's hard to tell. But he is saying this when he wants to come out of his cage when I come into the room. It's just a little baby talk, but I am sure that's what he is trying to say :) I do not know if this is something he had already learned from the breeder. She said she did not work on step ups much with him.

He is doing good in his cage and is very comfortable with it. He has not slept in his happy hut in it. He was in the smaller travel cage, but not this new one. I may need to move it to a different location.

He has that little child separation anxiety when I take him from his cage. He steps up well. But when I move away from the cage, he begs to go back to it and will try to jump as far as he can. It's toned down only slightly. I have not pushed him much with it. I've only taken him from his cage once or twice a day this week. Slow steps....

He and Neelix are doing well together!!! They eat from the same bowl as each other. Only once in a while will Nevz get bossy and chase Neelix from his cage. It seems to be later at night when Nevz wants to go to sleep.

This morning I caught Nevz eating his Zupreem pellets. He has grown up on seeds so I did not know how long it would take for him to start eating good food :) He still favours seeds and I let him eat as much as he wants.

In the past couple of days Neelix has been eating out of my hand a little bit more. He still screams at my fingers a bit, but at least he will finally take a sunflower seed directly from my fingers.

He is also letting me get closer to him without screams and bites. :)

Hey, it's DCTenor1 from Twitter, also known as the owner of Rudy the Parrot! I just wanted to stop by and wish you luck with Neville. My other bird, Winston, is a quaker parrot too. I got him back in October of 2000! He is living with my parents now. Here are some pictures. Enjoy :-)
